Grant to Meadowbank Water Ski Club

The Member for Lyons, David Llewellyn will today hand over a grant of $15,106 dollars to the Meadowbank Water Ski Club as part of a State Government grant.

Mr Llewellyn said that the grant made available through Sport and Recreation Tasmania’s Major Grants Program, allowed the Meadowbank Water Ski Club to purchase a tractor and accessories to be used for property maintenance and fire prevention.

“The tractor allows the Club members to slash and clear grasslands reducing the amount of fuel and limiting fires on their 140 acre property,” Mr Llewellyn said.

“The club also has an extensive gravel road that needs constant upkeep throughout the year due to washout from storms and heavy rain.

“This grant provides the Meadowbank Water Ski club members with the capacity to maintain a safe and responsible environment for their approximately 80 family membership.

“The Club promotes the opportunity for members to experience the joys of water skiing and it has at this moment a member competing in the Australian Wake Boarding pro tour, Mr Llewellyn said.

The first weekend in March the Meadowbank Water Ski Club will host a weekend for the charity organisations such as Camp Quality, Canteen and Headway Tasmania.

“The club will provide the opportunity for the families and their participants within these organisations to have a bit of fun and experience a weekend of water skiing, Mr Llewellyn said.

The Major Grants Program provides funding on a dollar-for-dollar basis, with grants ranging from $6000 to $80,000.

Administered by Sport and Recreation Tasmania, the funds are made available through the State Government’s Community Support Levy, which is funded from the profits of gaming machines in hotels and clubs.
