MERLINO OPENS BACCHUS MARSH SKATE PARK
Local skateboarders, roller-bladers and BMX enthusiasts will be showing off their skills after the Minister for Sport and Recreation, James Merlino, today officially opened the new Bacchus Marsh Skate Park.
Mr Merlino said the $150,000 skate park redevelopment, located at Rotary Park in Bennett Street, would be an important community hub for the growing number of young people in Bacchus Marsh.
“Bacchus Marsh has a large youth population, who need access to a public space where they can exercise, socialise, be creative and have fun,” Mr Merlino said.
“The result is a state-of-the-art skate park, which will help boost participation for skateboarding, roller-blading and BMX enthusiasts in the Bacchus March area and surrounds.
“By providing quality recreation facilities like this, the Brumby Government is encouraging more young Victorians to be active and healthy – which is what our Go for your life campaign is all about.”
Melton MP Don Nardella said the new skate park was a modern concrete facility featuring ledges, ramps and an open bowl. It also includes a part court basketball area and landscaping.
“The skate park project is a wonderful outcome not only for our local youth but for the whole community,” Mr Nardella said.
“There has been extensive community consultation through all stages of this project to ensure the facility meets the requirements of local users.”
The project received $50,000 in Brumby Government funding through the 2006/2007 Minors Category of the Community Facility Funding Program. Moorabool Shire Council contributed $94,000 with the YMCA providing $5,000.
Mr Merlino said the new skate park was the result of the Brumby Government working with local government and community organisations to benefit local residents.
