Collie Football Academy receives a financial boost
14/3/08
Primary school students involved in the Amaroo Football Academy will get a kick out of a $5,500 State Government grant.
South-West Minister Mark McGowan today presented the cheque to the academy.
“The project gives Collie Primary School students the opportunity to combine academic studies with specialised football training and skills development under the direction of AFL-accredited coaches,” Mr McGowan said.
“Local Year Seven students are selected from Government and non-Government schools to take part in the academy.
“The aim is to encourage the positive personal development of young players, provide quality training, enhance their education and promote Australian Rules Football throughout the community.
“It also encourages greater participation and commitment by individuals in their school and community.”
Collie-Wellington MLA Mick Murray said the grant, provided through the South West Development Commission’s Regional Development Scheme, would be used to purchase IT equipment for the academy.
“The Regional Development Scheme is designed to support projects which enhance the quality of life in the South-West,” Mr Murray said.
“The Amaroo Football Academy is an outstanding example of a project which is accomplishing just that.”
The academy was established in 2006 by Amaroo Primary School principal Charlie Serravite and project manager Mark Sheedy.
