Support for Glenorchy Football Club

Labor Member for Denison, Lisa Singh will tonight present a grant of $3000 on behalf of the State Government to the Glenorchy Football Club to assist with gymnasium facility costs following the loss of the Club’s own facility at the opening of the 2008 season launch.

“The loss of the Cresswell-Beakley grandstand last October due to a fire was heartbreaking for those who over the years had given so much to the Club,” Ms Singh said.

“It was especially heart-breaking given the circumstances that it occurred - only days after Glenorchy won the SFL Grand Final, its first premiership in 8-years.

“The State Government has been sympathetic to the plight of the Glenorchy Football Club.

“The Club is the heart and soul of the Glenorchy community. Last year was such a successful year on the field and it was devastating that it ended on such a sad note with the loss of the grandstand.

“I hope the Club can continue to do well despite the obstacles they have faced with losing their training facility.

“It is important for all Tasmanians to have the opportunity to be active. Living a healthy lifestyle also reduces childhood obesity and encourages teamwork and sportsmanship.

"Glenorchy is also the largest sporting club in the northern suburbs. I congratulate the Club for taking out the premiership last year and hope they have a very good season this year,” Ms Singh said.
