The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) is to restructure its Board to reflect a more streamlined operation. The Association has stated that the new structure will include 'global representation through Event, Athlete and Regional representation'. While the current Board consists of 13 members, the new Board will contain only seven, however two independent directors, one from the USA and the other Europe, have been added to the new structure. An independent chairman position has also been established. ASP President Wayne Bartholomew said that the move represents an important juncture in the evolution of professional surfing and that he welcomes a more global approach to the governance of the ASP. The new board will be installed at the ASP Annual General Meeting in March 2004.
