Foxtel has committed to a new partnership with the AFL (NSW/ACT) providing naming rights to two major competitions in NSW - the Sydney AFL and AFL Greater Sydney Juniors. The grassroots focused agreement, which runs in line with the 2007 AFL season, will include cross marketing and branding opportunities, with funds to be used by the AFL to upgrade club infrastructure and facilities.

Continuing an interesting push into naming rights sponsorship arrangements for the pay TV brand, Foxtel has committed to a new partnership with the AFL (NSW/ACT) providing naming rights to two major competitions in NSW - the Sydney AFL and AFL Greater Sydney Juniors. The agreement, which runs in line with the 2007 AFL season, will include cross marketing and branding opportunities, with funds to be used by the AFL to upgrade club infrastructure and facilities.

The company will also broadcast the new “Foxtel AFL Show: NSW/ACT” nationally on Aurora The Community Channel (channel 183). The hybrid-style show, combining match highlights and panel discussions, will be screened twice-weekly covering all the latest in news and events, school and club footy, rising talent as well as a highlights package from the FOXTEL Sydney AFL Premier Division. Foxtel stated that the local broadcast arrangement on Aurora will allow the AFL in NSW/ACT to grow and promote the sport at a grassroots level, and provides it with the ability to talk to AFL fans in NSW/ACT about its exclusive AFL coverage, which includes up to five live games each week.

Dale Holmes, General Manager of AFL (NSW/ACT) pointed out that the partnership will look at ways that Foxtel and the AFL can support community clubs in growing their participation levels and creating an environment to attract and retain families.

Foxtel State Manager NSW, Sean Warner, explained that with five live games of AFL broadcast on FOXTEL in NSW each week, it makes sense to work closely with the AFL to help each other grow in the competitive Sydney market, adding that the coverage of the local competition only reinforces our commitment to working with the community to develop grassroots sports in this country.
