SPORT DEVELOPMENT - VIS And Hawks Partnership To Benefit Grassroots Sport - Sport & Sponsorship News Australia

The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) and the Hawthorn AFL Club have formed a new partnership that will ensure Waverley Park is available for use by the community through Auskick programs, junior clinics and other activities. The move is part of a government push to offer the community more opportunities to play sport and get active at the grassroots level, and will also provide elite level VIS athletes with access the club's state-of-the-art training facilities at Waverley Park.

The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) and the Hawthorn AFL Club have formed a new partnership to allow VIS athletes to access the club's state-of-the-art training facilities at Waverley Park. Organised in conjunction with the state government, the arrangement will see VIS scholarship holders have access to the Waverley Park gymnasium and wet area facilities, increasing the availability of training facilities to athletes based in the local east and south-eastern regions.

Sport and Recreation Minister James Merlino said the initiative will also ensure Waverley Park is available for use by the community through Auskick programs, junior clinics and other activities, adding that it is essential to offer the community more opportunities to play sport and get active at the grassroots level.

The partnership has been made possible following to the recent redevelopment of Waverley Park: a $1.5 million redevelopment with the State Government funding $250,000, the AFL funding $250,000, and the Hawthorn Football Club contributing $1 million.
