The Northern Territory Government is supporting school sport and making it easier for students to compete interstate.
On behalf of the Education Minister, Minister for Sport Karl Hampton today announced that every student representing the Territory at the Pacific School Games will receive $300 from the Territory Government.
“Our school students do a great job representing the Territory at the Pacific School Games and we want to congratulate them and support them,” Mr Hampton said.
“The Northern Territory Government is proud to provide $100 000 for the 2008 School Sport Pacific School Games team.
“This weekend at the NT Athletics and School Sport NT Championships we’ve seen some fantastic track and field competition from the six School Sport clusters across the Territory.
“The championships have been a great success and from the 300 competitors a track and field squad will be selected for the Pacific School Games.
The track and field squad will join a team of 270 Territory athletes and officials representing School Sport NT at the Pacific School Games from 30 November to 6 December in Canberra.
“The swimming team, 4 basketball teams and 4 hockey teams have already been selected and students have been training hard,” said Mr Hampton.
“This year we also have 29 students with disability representing the Territory at the Games.
“I’m confident all of our school athletes will make the Territory proud.”
